Clinical Practice Opportunities

91㽶has more than 1,650 physicians and more than approximately 800 nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health care practitioners who provide patient care. MCW's group practice is composed of: Medical College Physicians (MCP), providing care in every specialty of medicine; and Children's Specialty Group (CSG), a joint venture of the 91㽶 and Children's Hospital and Health System, providing care to children. Our clinical faculty provides patient care at Froedtert Hospital, Children’s Wisconsin, the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center and many other hospitals and clinics in the Milwaukee Area.

The physicians of 91㽶provide cost-effective, outstanding care, and also teach, conduct research and work with faculty scientists to develop new ways of preventing and treating diseases. Indeed, patients of Medical College physicians have access to some of the finest, most advanced care available.

91㽶is a major national research center, in fact, the largest private research institution in Wisconsin. Total grant awards of $234 million for research, teaching, training and related purposes were received in FY 2017 (fiscal year). This includes $89.9 million funded from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) during the federal government's FY2017. 91㽶ranks in the top third of all U.S. medical schools in NIH research support.

The 91㽶Office of Research is an outstanding resource for our research faculty providing many tools and resources in the development of grants. It is their goal to support administrative needs of investigators and research staff to facilitate scientific discovery, promote translational approaches to research, and foster scientific collaboration across the 91㽶 campuses.

Resources provided at MCW:

  • Resources for linking investigators with funding opportunities.
  • Assistance in preparing and submitting grant applications.
  • Comprehensive research education and training opportunities.
  • Oversight to ensure regulatory compliance and safety.

Most of the resources are integrated and accessible through a common electronic portal, eBridgeMCW. Multi-tiered personalized support is available from our research support specialists. The Office of Research works to strengthen the preeminent academic investigative tradition at the MCW.

Council for Women's Advocacy

Council for Women's Advocacy

The Council for Women's Advocacy (CWA) serves as an advisory committee on issues of professional development of all faculty members, including networking, mentorship, advocacy and recognition. The council consists of faculty members from both basic science and clinical departments. CWA values and promotes equity in all aspects of 91㽶faculty life, and strives toward this through collaborative efforts as diverse as promotion of salary equity to development of programs to provide back-up child care.

Faculty Council

Faculty Council is the representative governing body of the faculty of the 91㽶. Membership is composed of representatives from each department and institute, the chairs of each of the Council's standing committees, two representatives from the Executive Committee of the Faculty, and the Faculty Council President, Senior Vice President and Vice President.

The Faculty Council is charged with improving communication between MCW's faculty and administration, advising administration of issues and concerns among the faculty and conversely, communicating administrative directives to the faculty.

Society of Teaching Scholars

Society of Teaching Scholars

Conceptualized in the late 1980’s by Herbert M. Swick, MD, then the 91㽶Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Society's mission was to “by example and action, stimulate innovation in medical education and represent excellence in education in faculty forums”. Since its twelve charter members were installed at the college-wide convocation exercises in September 1990, the Society has elected new members annually over its history, with installed members drawn from different specialties/disciplines.
